Monday 7th November - Rested leg

Monday 7th November - Rested Leg. Nothing much to say today. A complete day of rest. Just as well as it was very warm with temperatures in the low thirties. The leg is getting much better. I played with Ollie. He's very easy to please and would gladly watch cartoons on TV all day long if you let him. But we always try to do something  interactive. First thing, at about 7 - 7.30 Ollie appears in our bedroom.  If the door is open he will just climb up on the bed. If closed he will bang on the door until we open it! He always carries three things with him: an empty milk bottle which he sucks, a toy lamb called Lamby and a Jelly Cat brand toy called Merrydale dalmation. Ollie, however, has always called this "Jelly", until recently when he has inexplicably changed its name to "Greycat". I think it safe to say that this is his favourite toy; his comforter; without which he will not go to bed. Anyway, Ollie generally throws "Bottue", "Lamby", and "Greycat" onto the bed and climbs up after them, snuggling down between Di and I and demanding Nursery Rhymes. This is the signal for me to turn on my iPad and access Nursery Rhymes on You Tube. He has certain favourites and we must get through, "Baa Baa Black Sheep", "Mary had a little lamb", "Old MCDonald" and "Incy Wincy Spider". Ollie is word perfect on these although he can't really keep up with "Old MacDonald". When he's in the mood he has a remarkable ability to learn rhymes very quickly. He knew "Little Boy Blue" after just one session sitting in the car waiting for his Mum who had gone into the supermarket for a few items. At the moment he is learning several at once including "12345, once I caught a fish alive", "The Grand Old Duke of York", "Pat a Cake", "Two little dicky birds" and the ABC song. I am amazed how he can remember most of the alphabet song already. Ollie generally has his breakfast with us; usually this is cereal and toast. He loves corn flakes, Weetbix and also toast and vegemite. About once a week he also has a boiled egg and soldiers. Notice he is not offered sugary cereals. Interactive activities follow including playing with his wooden "twax". He has a Thomas the Tank Engine that fits on these "twax" and we are forever building new versions of the "twax" for Thomas to chug along. We also play with his dinosaurs and other "amimals". We build stuff with his big Lego and play with his blocks and rings. He also likes to sit on your lap sometimes and be read to from the very simple first books. One such book was "My New Baby" which describes the coming home of a new baby brother. Bedtime stories are not always necessary as he is normally too tired by the time he gets in bed. Such was the case tonight. I made a lovely chicken soup out of the remnants of yesterday's carcasses. With added lentils, brown rice and carrots, it was very filling.
